living by faith

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

It’s time to place our faith!

Do any of us truly know the future? Does anyone have the inside scoop on what will happen in the next few minutes, hours, days or years?

I know there are those who proclaim they do, but the truth is, everyone lives without knowing what’s ahead. We all in some way “live by faith.” The question is, where does our faith lie?

Paul’s letter to the Corinthians states the obvious: “we live by faith, not by sight.” We can’t see what lies ahead, but as Christians, the One we put our faith in can! Those who don’t have faith in Christ, have faith in themselves, faith that they can manipulate and maneuver things in order to line up the future they desire. That planning certainly can lead to the earthly life they want, but it can just as easily fall apart from unexpected circumstances.

We don’t believe that life here will be perfect, but we do know that the life to come will be! We aren’t oblivious to pain and suffering or sorrow and grief, but those things don’t change the final outcome of life. We live with the faith of knowing that whatever happens here will pass away and that heaven awaits.

The song writer penned these words: “I care not today what the morrow may bring, if shadow or sunshine or rain. The Lord, I know, ruleth o’er everything, and all of my worry is vain.” Our faith should inspire this type of thinking. It doesn’t matter, in the long run, what happens tomorrow because we don’t have the power to change it. We will celebrate or grieve; we will rejoice or be sad; we will react to life…

We will live by faith, walking with confidence in the One Who is guiding us. We will trust that His Word is true, and therefore He will “never leave [us] or forsake [us].” (Deut. 31:6) His plans for us are to “prosper… and not to harm.” (Jeremiah 29:11) That’s the walk by faith I prefer to take!

The last verse penned to the hymn “Living By Faith” says this: “My Lord will return to this earth some sweet day; our troubles will then all be o’er. The Master so gently will lead us away, beyond that blessed heavenly shore.” Our faith-filled walk has a glorious destination!

Reminder: The future is no mystery to God; my faith rests in Him.
