The Possibilities are Endless

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible,

but with God all things are possible.’” Matthew 19:26

It’s time to remember God is not limited

This verse is so succinctly stated, and yet it is so vast. How many times do we think or say, “That’s just impossible”? The truth is, for us it is, but God’s possibilities are limitless. What’s the commercial on TV about renewable energy say? “The possibilities are endless…” That’s God—renewable energy with endless possibilities!

A simple chorus written back in the 40s stated this: “God can do anything, anything, anything. God can do anything, but fail.” We love to think of God in this capacity, but do we really understand (at least in our limited way) the truth of this statement? Don’t we still tend to go to Him with our list of possibilities to solve an issue? God maybe if You did this, or if You did that, or if You..

What do you think? Do you think God must be smiling at us as we go through our list? It must be a bit like listening to a child offering recommendations on how to fix something complex, like a car engine, that they just don’t have the capacity for. Does He, like we, stand back and smile thinking “they are just so cute with their little suggestions…”

In this verse from Matthew, Jesus starts out addressing a specific. “With man this is impossible.” But He enlarges that thought when He states “with God all things are possible.” (emphasis mine) WOW! There is nothing God can’t do! We should wear that truth like armor, and walk through life with a confidence that can’t be shaken.

Every once in a while, when we’ve run out of possible answers, we need to remember He’s got possibilities we can’t even conjure up in our wildest imaginings. There’s a song I enjoy listening to, and it states this concept quite simply.

Jesus walked on the water just as easily as you please,

And He can walk right over the things that we fear,

And calm the stormy seas.

The world can only offer two options

You can sink or you can swim

But if you walk with the Lord, one step at a time,

You can WALK ON THE TOP WITH HIM!

This is a very simple example of God having an option we don’t.

God wants us to depend on Him. Jesus reminds us here in the New Testament what God told the people through Jeremiah in the Old Testament. “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?” Of course it wasn’t really a question. It was more like “Come on, I’m God-do you really think this thing or any other thing is too hard for me? Really?”

We need this to be the normal way we look at life. God, Who is my source, is limitless, and each day He reenergizes me and sets my feet on a path of endless possibilities, because I am His and He is mine.

Reminder: There’s nothing my God cannot do!
